Eat Dessert First is for sharing my favorites with you.

Kaelub only slept in his bassenet a handful of times. I didn't even get to take a picture. He didn't seem to like it. Every time I would get him to sleep and lay him down in it he would wake up shortly after. So at first, I was breastfeeding, he was usually sleeping in my bed.

I remember being pregnant setting up Kaelub's crib & dresser. I was so excited. Setting up all his things made it feel more real. I bought pee mats; one for his bed and smaller ones for bum changes. We also received his homemade quilt & pillow as a gift before he was born.
We purchased a brand new dresser that I put together.

I can still feel how it felt to bring him home for the first time and have him sleep in his crib. I couldn’t sleep myself so I just watched as he slept. At that time his crib was still in our room because his room wasn’t ready to be his room just yet.

When I stopped breastfeeding him I felt like that was the perfect time to sleep train him. It was hard for the first two weeks. Though once it got easier all I had to do was give him his bottle, turn on his music sleep hippo, give him a kiss goodnight; tell him I love him, put out the light and shut his door on my way out.

When he got a little bigger, I forget what age, he started sleeping through the night 7pm-7am. With the exception of the random nights he wakes up for whatever reason. & when those nights happen I just have to go change his bum, give him another bottle & turn back on his hippo. He is such a great sleeper.

When we sleep out the odd night I would bring along his play pen. He didn’t sleep in there otherwise. We normally just used it for him to play inside of it while I did my daily duties.

Getting Kaelub to sleep anywhere but his crib was usually a NO GO. Even when we weren’t home and using the playpen it was a bit difficult. He always felt the most comfortable in the crib & in his own room. He just needs his bottle & Lights out. His Hippo helped a lot.

There was one day that I felt like it was time to lower the crib because he was getting bigger & pulling himself up. I knew that if I didn’t do it he was eventually going to fall out. Even then it felt like a huge step forward. Where had my baby gone?

Now It’s Time For A Big Boy Bed

His New Big Boy Bed

There were a couple days where Kaelub would climb up and sit on the bars of his crib. He was also able to get inside sometimes. I don’t think he ever tried to get out after climbing up because he was a bit scared of falling and hurting himself. I figured it was time to get him into a big boy bed.

I used to change his bum on the single mattress on the ground. When I took his crib apart I was just going to use that single mattress as his new bed but decided to put his crib mattress on top.

I know that change is not always easy. I’ve heard that it can take up to two weeks for our children to become comfortable and alright with the changes we make in our routines. Kaelub did pretty good though.

The second nap was probably the hardest but the first night was a bit tough also. The night he started sleeping in his big boy bed he was confused & I kept hearing him kinda of wine to himself “Go Now? Go Now? Inside? Inside?” basically asking where his crib was wondering what was going on. But nap time the following day.. OMG He refused to lay down & basically destroyed his room. He had so much freedom he didn’t even know what to do with himself.

The next few days were a bit easier but we were still trying to get comfortable. After about a week everything settled and he goes to sleep and takes naps regularly.

I do wish to buy him a normal toddler bed with a frame in the future but for now this will do. He loves how is room has so much more space now. & more freedom for when he wakes up.
